GMA's Amy Robach Breast Cancer

October is the month for Breast Cancer Awareness to spread the word on the importance of mammograms and early screenings.

Early in October, ABC's "Good Morning America" promoted Breast Cancer Awareness month by featuring Contributing Correspondent and Substitute Anchor Amy Robach's screening live on the show.

After avoid getting a mammogram for over a year, Amy finally submitted to the screening thanks to the urging of her producers and colleague Robin Roberts, a breast cancer survivor.

Little did she realize, her decision that day would turn out to be life saving.

On the morning of November 11, 2013, Amy announced on GMA that her mammogram test came back positive. She has breast cancer.

The 40 year old wrote in her ABC blog, "While everyone who gets cancer is clearly unlucky, I got lucky by catching it early, and there are so many people to thank for making sure I did. Every producer, every person who urged me to do this, changed my trajectory. The doctors told me bluntly, 'That mammogram just saved your life!"

Amy will be taking a leave of absence and stated on the show that she will be undergoing a double mastectomy.

Early detection is the key. It can save lives.
